" Sociology Stories ": we decided to call this new project that because it is, in fact, about sociology stories. The stories of all of us, lovers, scholars, or simply enthusiasts of sociology. The starting point was as simple as it was interesting: how many of those who graduated in sociology actually pursue a profession related to what they studied? Have they been consistent with their studies or have they turned to something else to try to find their place in the world? It is from these questions that we will try to tell our, and your, sociology stories. Today we tell the story of Pasquale , 42, who for 16 years has been doing the job he loves most.
So Pasquale, tell us a little about your life after graduation.
"At 26, I graduated with a degree in Sociology, with a major in Social Planning, from Sapienza University in Rome. Today, I work in Rome as an educator and case manager in a drug rehabilitation center. I've been working in this field since I was 26, just a few months after graduation, albeit in different settings.".
So it was love at first sight with Sociology?
"I really wanted to earn a degree in Sociology. Initially, I enrolled in Law, on my parents' advice, but the following year I changed majors, gladly doing so. I don't regret my choice at all. On the contrary. The education I chose allowed me to grow, improve, and work in the field I loved most. Of course, I didn't stop there, because in addition to my professional experiences, I continued my studies, earning a second degree in Education and Training Sciences, and taking several courses, one of which specifically focused on drug addiction.".
What insights have you gained after 16 years in the social field and in a sensitive sector like yours?
"I believe, in general, that in my profession as in life, tenacity, willpower, optimism, and humility have all been of great help to me. Awareness? You never stop growing and learning. And this allows me (us) to always have new goals.".
